Encourage cycling by positive information

Add cycling times to signs. Educating that cycling from Corstorphine to Haymarket is 15min by bike might encourage people to switch modes. Place on the blue cycle signs but also road signs - showing other users the times can help switch

advertising the reduction of pollution and how spaces could look should encourage switch.

Why the contribution is important

To break down barriers to entry which is often "I can't" or "I didn't know".

So many people are completely unaware that cycling in Edinburgh is SO much faster than public transport and often only slightly slower than driving! This is because of our excellent network of cycle paths which many have been utilising for commuting and leisure.

By cycling to work, I have HALVED my commute time from 50 minutes on public transport to 25 minutes by bike. Doing this over two months, I have noticed improvements in my physical and mental health.

Same! Bus to work takes me about an hour, cycling takes 30 minutes max. I can mainly go on cycle paths so it's a really lovely way to start and finish the day. I cycle all year round and it's lovely seeing the seasons change on the paths. I take a change of clothes in case it's rainy, but it's very rare that I can't cycle to work because of weather and I feel so much better for it.

This is a really interesting idea and interesting to note how much time cycling has saved people. Are there any other ways which might make people more aware of the time benefits of cycling?

Bus adverts or those big screen advertising boards. “You can be faster by bike” “roll past that traffic and get to your work quicker and fitter” 😃
