Pannier bags to carry stuff

I started cycling to work but got a sweaty back with my back pack. Now I discovered pannier bags and I can ride to work without a sweaty back and I go into work wearing my work clothes.

having a pannier means carrying is easier, you can carry shopping, work stuff, and it's easier to ride when it's being carried on the bike.

Why the contribution is important

Barriers to cycling are often because people don't know how easy it is to carry personal things or shopping in bags. It's just like loading a car boot.

I cannot sing enough praise for pannier bags! I have done the same, buying a rack and two bags - now I cycle to work, get changed, and can even pick up shopping on the way home if needed.

It does make physically lifting the bike a lot harder... however this is rarely necessary even when ascending stairs on active routes, as there is often a rut/slope next to steps that you can position your wheels on to push your bike up.

This is really interesting. Are they easy to fit to your bike?

Yvonne, yes they are. Most racks fit all bikes. Once the rack is fitted my Ortleib ones slot on and off quickly and are huge. I’ve got two which did me for a 2 week holiday! And they’re waterproof too. Super easy. And no more sweaty back!

" It's just like loading a car boot. " - so long as you only ever carry teeny weeny amounts of stuff. How does this fit in with busy modern lifestyles where a weekly shop is pretty much a necessity as opposed to daily trips to artisan bakeries?
