Reduce Air Travel

Think about whether flights are absolutely necessary. If you are flying for work consider whether a virtual meeting or a conference call would work as an alternative?

When flying for leisure consider alternative means of transport. Rail travel can often take similar travel time when taking in check-in and security within the airport and often stations are more central.

Why the contribution is important

Air travel is the most carbon intensive mode of transport. It is important to explore alternatives.

It is being so good seeing fewer contrails in lock down.
We are all learning to use virtual meetings more; as the video says businesses should be promoting this and reducing travel.
Our governments could help by enabling reduction of train fares so that rail becomes cheaper tna flying with the UK

The price of rail fare in the UK is far too expensive to encourage and enable more people to take trains instead of drive and fly within the UK. The railways need to be nationalised, subsidised with a tax on carbon-intensive travel (flights and motor vehicles), and then cheaper and more efficient trains need to be prioritised as soon as possible. The climate emergency demands this action.

Forget it, how can council staff travel to vital conferences and jollies if they have to spend days on trains. First class air travel is required (so that they can "work" en route to their luxury accommodation).
